ENL

English as a New Language (ENL) is a program designed to support English Language Learners (ELLs) in developing proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and listening in English. The curriculum integrates language development with content learning across all subject areas. Instruction focuses on building language proficiency, developing academic language skills, using scaffolding strategies, practicing cultural responsiveness, and differentiating instruction based on students' English proficiency levels, which range from beginner to advanced. The goal of an ENL class is to empower ELLs to fully participate in school by helping them achieve both English language proficiency and academic success.

As a resource, our students use Imagine Learning, an adaptive learning platform that provides access to content that is appropriate for their ability levels. When students start the program, they take a benchmark assessment which establishes their individual learning level. As they engage with the platform and content, the system adjusts the instruction based on student performance. Students are therefore always provided with extension and remediation that is appropriate for their independent levels.
