Art Element: Space Students will learn to identify and use positive and negative space effectively in their artwork.
Space as perspective Learn foreground, middle, and background by drawing a landscape. Practice one-point perspective with a road scene and the drawing of the inside of a room.
Neighborhood drawings Students will draw our neighborhood using one and two point perspectives.
Artists Studies and museum trips Learn about artists Pablo Picasso, Titus Kaphar, contemporary artists
MLK Drawing Exhibit Create artwork inspired by Dr. King's legacy, highlighting symbolism, portraiture, and social justice for a statewide exhibit.
Mosaic Work Tile and Mosaic art for public display
Sculpture and form Cardboard and clay sculptures of figures and form
Pixel Painting Pixel Painting and Pixel designs

8th Grade ARTS Curriculum

Unit Unit of Study
Art Principle Balance and Symmetrical Portrait Students will learn about balance with a focus on symmetry. Students will create a symmetrical portrait to explore balance and proportion through bilateral symmetry.
Radial Symmetry Students will create a mandala using radial symmetry, repeating patterns around a central point to achieve balance and unity.
Pixel Art Students will explore pixel art and design, and graph-based techniques.
Neighborhood drawings Students will draw our neighborhood using one and two point perspectives.
